Workflow is an emerging software category that can improve the organization’s productivity. Like other technologies it will take some time to be used and accepted by most organizations. This paper show the COPEL experience on implementing a solution and some benefits acquainted.
Workflow technology is the automation of a business process, in whole or part, during which documents, information or tasks are passed from one participant to another for action, according to a set of procedural rules.
Copel has experienced a lot of changes last decade: restructuring, deregulation, outsourcing, early retirement and the need for standardization and control. Workflow meets this demands flowing into the process across the formal organization.
Effective workflow implemented processes have three basic components: the Architect, the Engine and the Viewer.
The implementation took three years for distribution engineering processes as customer load increasing, outage management studies, equipments setting definition, etc.
The workflow management system avoided a time consuming and high probability of failure processes.
The main benefits are explicit process definition, quick reactions to the environment and easy tracks of the operations. The business is conducted more effectively, costs are lowered and the service to the customer is better.
