According to the features of distribution network, a fault locating system based on fuzzy identification is proposed in the paper, which is composed of fault signal acquisition unit and fault location analysis center. The principles of fault indicator, radio frequency and GPRS technology are employed in fault signal acquisition unit design, which ensures the fault information obtained correctly and rapidly. Fault location analysis center creates the standard fault set of fault sequence according to the topology and mode of the distribution network. The action failure and mistaken action rates are used as the fuzzy parameters to calculate the fuzzy difference of the fault sequence and the standard fault set. If the minimum fuzzy difference is smaller than the critical fault distance, the fault section of corresponding fault sequence is chosen to be the target fault location. The fault location analysis center sends the fault
section to the mobile phone of the people in charged by short message. The fault location system is working on the distribution network and operating well. With the accurate fault location, power supply recovered rapidly. The losses of power failure were reduced effectively.​
