The article shows the mathematical model used for the determination of an optimum method of periodically repeated maintenance of a specific element of a power unit. This optimum maintenance mode, in terms of costs, is chosen from a list of technically feasible maintenance modes. As a cost factor we have chosen the average annual costs to be expended on maintenance, on the elimination of defects and the subsequent repair as well as the down-time of a power unit caused by maintenance works and repair performed on a specific construction element. The calculation of the respective cost index is based on the theory of games. A mathematical model defines the optimum maintenance mode. Based on the sensitivity analysis of the model the impact of specific model parameters on the value of ei,k element of the E matrix of game was determined. The final chapter of this study describes further possibilities for the improvement of this optimization method and its application on electric drives and, consequently, the own consumption level of power stations.
