The present work gives response to a request of the Empresa Eléctrica Matanzas (Electric Company Matanzas) to give solution to the critical situation that have the grounding systems of overhead lines and power substations until tensions of 34.5 kV, which has rebounded in a high failure rated.
The Cuban standards related with the grounding systems are exempt of the great advances and discoveries that have happened in the last years. In their present state it is not convenient to apply the old method to give solution to the existent problems in the distribution systems in Cuba related with this theme. Given this situation is carried out a revision of these standards.
In accordance with these problems a methodology is developed for the design of grounding systems in overhead lines and power substations for intermediate tensions. This methodology considers the design of grounding systems in multilayer soils, and the impulse behavior of grounding. In order to complement this methodology a software was developed for the design of groundings in overhead
lines and power substations.
