The paper deals with the optimal siting and sizing of DG for a given network so that the cost of power losses during a prefixed period of study can be minimized and investments for network upgrades can be deferred. In particular, generators and loads are modeled taking into account their own power daily curve, in order to obtain an accurate evaluation of capital and operation expenditures. The proposed procedure, based on an evolutionary algorithm, is capable to establish the optimal distributed generation allocation in an existing MV distribution network, considering budget restrictions and technical constraints. A number of application studies have been performed to show the effect of including the daily curves within the planning process.
