The live maintenance activity started in Romania with the training of a work team from IRE Sibiu in 1979 at Berlin-Neuenhagen. Between 1982 and 1985 the instruction of five teams for live maintenance activity took place at Sibiu. The former SUCREE Company -Sibiu (now days RETRASIB) manufactured a set of tools for this endowment of the new teams and to complete their tool sets for live maintenance between 1982 and 1994 58 live maintenance technologies for all-voltages and all high voltage parts of overhead lines were developed and tested. Starting with 2001, the live maintenance activity was taken over by the new founded Commercial Society Smart S.A. Nowadays the Live Maintenance technologies have a constant development. The technical and economical benefits are presented.
